INTRODUCTION
What is Fare-Free Transportation?
The Cape May County Fare-Free Transportation
Program provides daily fixed-route and demand-responsive bus transportation to
county residents who are 1) aged 60 or older; 2) disabled; 3) Veterans or
spouses of; 40 of low-income.
Where does Fare-Free Transportation Go?
To all areas of Cape May County; To Shore
Memorial Hospital and surrounding areas of Somers Point; To Betty Bacharach
Rehabilitation Center at Pomona; To Medical Facilities in Linwood and
Northfield, Atlantic County; To Medical Facilities in Philadelphia; To
Wilmington Delaware Veteran's Hospital
How do I use Fare-Free Transportation?
In order to use Fare-Free Transportation riders
must have an identification card. To secure your card call:
609-889-3700. A call-taker will ask you necessary information and assign
you a Ridership ID number (Your card will be mailed to you). Have this
number handy every time you call Fare-Free to make an appointment.
Must I make an appointment to use Fare-Free's
modified fixed-route buses:
No appointment is necessary; Check the time
schedules and routes for your area and stand on any corner along the route;
Riders may get on or off at any corner along the route and are encouraged to use
these buses for other than shopping. All buses reverse the route for your
return trip; check times when buses leave the shopping centers.
Door-to-Door Service for Medical
Apppointments
It is necessary to make an appointment for this
service and two (2) working days notice is required. To make an
appointment call Fare-Free Transportation at: 609-889-3700.
Appointments for transportation are taken between
the hours of 9am and 3pm. Before scheduling your medical appointment,
check the door-to-door service chart on the following page to find out when
Fare-Free vehicles travel from your town to the are of your appointment.
Inform your doctor that you will be arriving with
Fare-Free Transportation in order that he/she will make every attempt to see you
on time. You will find that most are willing to adjust their schedules to
accommodate you.
For faster service, have your rider ID number
ready when calling Fare-Free Transportation. You will find your rider ID
number on your Fare-Free Identification Card.
If you schedule a ride then decide to cancel, or
find another means of travel, you must notify Fare-Free. This will save
the driver time and also allow someone else to use your seat. NOTICE:
frequent or continual no-shows without notifying Fare-Free will result in the
discontinuation of all service.
Most Fare-Free vehicles used for medical
transportation are lift-equipped. If you are confined to a wheelchair, or,
use a walker or cane, please advise Fare-Free call-takers when making your
appointment.
Disabled or frail riders may need assistance or
someone to accompany them in order to be able to ride the Fare-Free
vehicle. If this is so, please advise Fare-Free call-taker when making
your appointment.
CANCELLATIONS
If your plans change after you have scheduled a
ride and you find you will not be needing Fare-Free after all, PLEASE be sure to
call and cancel your ride. You may do this at any time, seven days a week,
twenty-four hours a day by using Fare-Free's new Answer Call system for
cancellations. From a touch-tone phone dial 609-463-6690 and follow the
instructions.
